With the seawall breach now restored and the walkways relaid, the main pier is now safe to re-open and did so on Wednesday 30 April 2025, the date of the annual Gaudie Procession. The torchlit procession and pier walk, organised by the Kate Kennedy Club, commemorates John Honey, a student who rescued members of the crew of the vessel Janet of Macduff in 1800. Every year, students, led by a piper, process by candlelight to the East Sands where they lay a wreath at the site of the shipwreck.
With the assistance of, the public, Hamish Foundation, Lodge St Andrews No 25, St Andrews Ball, Scottish Marine Directorate, St Andrews Heritage Trust, St Andrews Community Trust, Pilgrim Foundation, St Andrews University Fellowship, St Andrews University Community Fund, Robert Barr Charitable Trust, Kinburn Trust, R&A Town Fund, Fife Local Community Planning Budget, St Andrews Crafters, Crown Estates Fife, St Andrews Ladies Putting Club, and the Turtleton Charitable Trust, we are now "shovel ready" and amassing the funds to commence the final construction phase.
However having pushed hard to get to this position, the search for funds goes on, as the historic landfall of the pier has still to be repaired and the pier remains vulnerable at this time.
While we are exceptionally grateful for the numerous donations and grants from Individuals, Trusts, and Organisations, we feel it appropriate to note those donations given as a memorial.
